A man was found dead in a house fire that broke out Thursday morning on San Antonio's South Side, as flames engulfed the residential structure, authorities said. The San Antonio Fire Department received calls about the inferno at approximately 9:30 a.m., with the blaze occurring in the 4000 block of Commercial Avenue, according to KSAT.

Upon their arrival, firefighting teams battled heavy fire emanating from the middle of the home, which was a metal structure. Despite the swift response, the man, reportedly in his 60s and possibly living with a disability, was found deceased inside. Joe Arrington, an SAFD public information officer, remarked that, the man was the only known resident in the home, "Arrington said.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Confronted with the devastation and the tragedy of a life lost, the firefighters pushed on as smoke and despair hung heavy in the air. As per FOX San Antonio, the body was located in the grim in-between of the bedroom and living area, a grim testament to the ferocity and speed of the house fire.

Determining the cause of the fire and the man's death is now at the forefront of several investigative bodies, including the SAFD arson investigators and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office, all of whom were dispatched to the scene. "Per department policy, arson investigators are on their way to find out how and the where the fire started," a department official stated.
