A man behind bars is facing new charges after deputies say he heisted a hefty load of copper from a business on E Hardy Road. Lamarcus Carter, currently in the clink with a $25,000.00 bond on an assault rap, is alleged to have, on March 12, 2024, pilfered copper valued at around $20,000.00, according to law enforcement officials.

The Constable's Office detailed that deputies were called out to the 20100 block of E Hardy Road to investigate a reported theft. What they purportedly learned quickly was that Carter had managed to allegedly snag the pricey metal from the establishment. The theft only added to Carter's legal woes, as he is booked at the Harris County Jail awaiting a chance to bond out on the new charge.

"Lamarcus Carter was found to currently be in the Harris County Jail with a $25,000.00 bond for Assault with Previous Convictions therefore an additional charge for Precious Metal Theft was filed. He is awaiting bond out of the 351st District Court for the new charge," stated Constable Mark Herman in an announcement made on the precinct's official Facebook page.

Copper theft is a serious crime, often over seen by stringent legislation due to the metal's value and critical role in electrical infrastructure. The stakes for Carter have been upped significantly, with the felony charge squarely placing him in further legal jeopardy. It's a tale too common, where the weight of one crime can compound the pressure of past misdeeds, knotting the individual's fate ever more tightly in the hands of the judicial system.
