March is shaping up to be a month of new beginnings for the City of Mesquite's Neighborhood Services Department, as it welcomes two accomplished professionals to its managerial team. According to the City of Mesquite, Texas, seasoned city government veteran Vernon Drake has accepted the role of Property Maintenance and Rental Inspections Manager, while Micala Davis steps into the position as Manager of Environmental Code.
Drake, armed with a diverse background totaling over a quarter-century in municipal service across various Texan cities such as Plano and San Antonio, now brings his expertise to Mesquite. With roots that stretch deep into military service as a retired Army Reservist, his appointment was a direct response to the City Council's call for enhanced attention to apartment maintenance and a more robust rental property license and inspection division.
Appointed alongside Drake, Micala Davis transitions from her tenure at Mesquite Independent School District, where she developed an extensive resume over more than 15 years. Specializing in community outreach, education, training, and conflict resolution, Davis is positioned to direct the division tasked with the City Council's mission of polishing neighborhood aesthetics, targeting code disobediences that range from unkempt landscaping to graffiti and beyond.
Through the concerted efforts of these new managers, the City of Mesquite aims to advance its vision of civic beauty and orderliness. "The Environmental Code division seeks to meet the City Council’s goal of improving neighborhood appearance by addressing code violations including landscape maintenance issues, graffiti, inoperable vehicles, and property maintenance issues," the City of Mesquite, Texas stated. With Vernon Drake and Micala Davis at the helm, residents can expect to witness their neighborhoods transform into a well-oiled machination of environmental code compliance and property care.
