Mesquite's Economic Boom: 2,800 Jobs Added, Major Companies Like Canadian Solar and General Dynamics InvestSource: City of Mesquite, Texas

The City of Mesquite is booming with new business, as per its latest economic report unveiled earlier this month. Chalking up 2,800 new jobs and nine businesses stretching their wings, the Texan city is reshaping its employment terrain. Forging its place in the clean energy map, Mesquite welcomed Canadian Solar and Hexagon Purus – both setting up their first-ever stateside facilities.

General Dynamics, a behemoth in the aerospace and defense sector, has plans to get a piece of Mesquite for its new ordnance and tactical systems outpost. In a statement scooped by the Mesquite economic development newsroom, Mayor Daniel Aleman, Jr. lauded the arrivals, noting the breadth of opportunity from residents to small businesses they bring, "We are honored to be chosen by these companies and look forward to growing alongside them", as per the City of Mesquite, Texas.

Joining the influx, big names like Lowe’s, Masonite, and Coleman Powersports are setting up shop in newly minted Mesquite business parks. The City now serves as the backdrop for Vehicle Accessory Group and Greenliner, which hauled their headquarters there, while RJW Logistics calls it the command center for its operations in the southern central U.S.

The city's metamorphosis isn't just attracting manufacturing and production giants. There's tangible evidence in numbers, with the Dallas Central Appraisal District noting Mesquite’s total valuation skyrocketing from around $5.5 billion in 2015 to a whopping $13.5 billion in 2023. City Manager Cliff Keheley wore his ambition on his sleeve, “Mesquite is in a rapid growth cycle,” as reported by the City of Mesquite, Texas. Keheley is keen on diversifying Mesquite's economy while turning it into a hotspot for Dallas-Fort Worth movers and shakers.

Underpinning the city's economic renaissance is a five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan, the brainchild of a volunteer committee from various societal strata. Kim Buttram, Mesquite's Director of Economic Development, eagerly expressed the importance of such transparency, "The goal of the report is to help the public and our investors see the results of their collaboration," according to the City of Mesquite, Texas. With the record-setting development year, the report aims to showcase the fruits of persistent efforts and investments.

Beyond the immediate fiscal triumphs, the report also sheds light on other key economic domains like redevelopment, incentives, tourism, and marketing strategies, forecasting Mesquite’s economic endeavors in the year to come.
