Northville's own North Center Brewing Co. has announced the last call for its craft beers, with the brewery set to pour its final pints on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. After nearly nine years in operation, the local establishment at 410 N. Center St. is shutting its doors due to a culmination of industry pressures and operational challenges. FOX 2 Detroit reported the company cited the competitive craft beer market, personnel losses, and rising costs as deciding factors in its closure.
Describing the difficult path they've navigated over the past year, North Center Brewing expressed, "Over the last year we have navigated some difficult waters and no longer find ourselves being able to deliver a sustainable product." With the shutdown unwelcome news that may startle many patrons, the brewery hosted what it deemed a "bittersweet Saint Patrick's Day celebration and last hurrah." Information from North Center Brewing Company shared their gratitude towards their supporters, from dedicated Beer Club members to local Michigan breweries, urging the community to continue backing Michigan's breweries.
In preparation for its final week, North Center Brewing will exclusively offer beer and merchandise, forgoing its food service. Signaling the end of an era for a space that became a local haunt for live music and community gatherings, the closure has the brewery's fanbase sharing fond memories and voicing their distress at losing a beloved neighborhood spot. One former performer lamented in a Hometown Life interview, "Certainly great memories playing guitar & singing at NCB. It was just a different kinda vibe and awesome beer - but mostly the people made it special."
The last day of operations, chosen to coincide with St. Patrick's Day, promises to be a mix of jubilation and sorrow as regulars and newcomers alike raise their glasses one last time. As patrons clean out the tanks and the coolers one last time, North Center Brewing Co. will be so missed it was remembered by one social media commenter, "North Center Brewing Company is a place with delicious beer and uncommonly kind and welcoming people. This must have been a difficult decision and my heart is with all of you," a sentiment shared by many as reported by Hometown Life.
