Renee Garcia has been green-lighted as Philly's new legal eagle. The City Council, in a rare show of total agreement, has confirmed her as City Solicitor after a nod from Mayor Cherelle Parker. Garcia's got the chops for the gig, previously chairing the litigation department, she's been up close and personal with both the City Council and Administration's legal tumults.
Garcia sang her praises before the City Council on March 11, ensuring the Law Department's agenda is all about keeping the city as safe as Uncle Sam's top-secret files. "Whether it’s removing a child or an adult from a dangerous situation, filing an emergency petition to demolish a hazardous building, defending a City employee who did their job according to law, or keeping our residents’ personal data protected – the Law Department keeps our City safe," Garcia stated at her confirmation hearing, according to the City of Philadelphia.
Keeping the legal fort fortified. "I have had the privilege of representing both City Council and the Administration in my role as Chair of Litigation and now as … City Solicitor. As City Solicitor, I will remain steadfast in my commitment to upholding attorney-client privilege while providing high-quality representation to all of our clients in the interest of the City,” she announced during her hearing, as per the City of Philadelphia.
With Garcia steering the legal ship, Philly's looking ahead to a safer, spiffier future under Mayor Parker's rule. The Law Department's tuned up for doling out the cream of the crop legal advice to the city's big wigs, focusing on a Philly that's safe, clean, and green, with a little extra green in everyone's pocket to boot.
