Round Rock's future cadets are set to experience the thrill of law enforcement this summer. The Round Rock Police Department is gearing up to provide young citizens a glimpse into the life behind the badge with its Junior Police Academy, a program designed to build community ties. With no costs attached, these week-long camps dive deep into law enforcement procedures and activities.
During the summer months, the structured academy offers kids a chance to walk in a police officer's shoes, participating in obstacle courses, marching, and even repelling activities. Open to Round Rock residents and students, these sessions cater to various age groups, ensuring tailored experiences that enlighten and engage future generations in public service. Visiting a real police helicopter, parked so close, that children could almost touch the sky, the camp makes sure it leaves an unforgettable impression, as per the Round Rock Texas.
Six sessions are scheduled to run Monday through Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The program’s rich curriculum touches on numerous facets of police work – from traffic safety to self-defense, and drug prevention to criminal investigations, imparting valuable lessons in a community-centered environment, according to the Round Rock Texas.
Application season for the sought-after local program has ended, with the Round Rock Police Department planning to send out notifications of acceptance or denial by March 31, 2023. However, for those interested in supporting the next cohort of young cadets, sponsorship opportunities remain open. To make a donation or sponsor the Junior Police Academy, community members can reach out at 512-218-5500 or drop an email to [email protected].
