Angus Ockels-Talbott, a 32-year-old man, was apprehended and charged with murder following the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Juan Guerra during what authorities are calling a drug deal gone bad at Pearsall Park in December. The encounter, which was set to be a marijuana sale, quickly turned deadly, with Guerra sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. Guerra was rushed to University Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries the next day, according to details from FOX San Antonio.
An arrest warrant affidavit provided by the San Antonio Police Department outlined the series of events leading to the tragic shooting. Ockels-Talbott, along with an unidentified suspect, allegedly intended to purchase marijuana from Guerra. They reportedly picked up Guerra and his girlfriend and attempted to withdraw cash from an ATM but were unable owing to a missing bank card. After returning to Pearsall Park, "exchanged words" escalated into a violent confrontation, which saw Ockels-Talbott draw a weapon and fatally shoot Guerra, as described in an affidavit reported by KSAT.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene, leaving Guerra's girlfriend and a witness to contact emergency services. Investigators were quick to pull together evidence, including cell phone records that revealed the suspects' names and addresses, as well as damning messages that suggested a planned robbery ".Detectives were able to use the cell phone records of both the victim and Talbott to find the suspect's names and addresses, as well as correspondence between Talbott the second suspect, allegedly planning to rob the victim," FOX San Antonio reported.
Further incriminating evidence against Ockels-Talbott was unearthed in the form of Instagram messages and GPS data, which, according to KSAT, affirmatively placed him at the scene of the crime. A significant detail was provided by the arrest warrant affidavit: Guerra’s girlfriend, having met Ockels-Talbott several times, was able to positively identify him to officers. The specifics of the confrontation between Ockels-Talbott and Guerra, where a verbal dispute turned shockingly violent, were also spotlighted by KSAT: "Ockels-Talbott pulled out a gun and fired several rounds at Guerra."
The second suspect involved remains at large as investigators continue their search. Meanwhile, Ockels-Talbott is currently held on a $150,000 bond, his future and the full account of that fateful night still to be determined in a court of law.
