Two suspects have been apprehended following the audacious daytime robbery of an armored truck in San Antonio. The San Antonio Police Department nabbed 28-year-old DeAndre Nelson on charges of armed robbery today, after a brazen heist near a Wells Fargo bank just a day prior, as FOX San Antonio reported.
The second suspect's identity has not been revealed. According to authorities, the two men targeted a Brinks armored vehicle, holding the security personnel at gunpoint and making off with several cash cartridges. Nelson was captured after detectives, paired with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, uncovered evidence identifying the vehicle used in the crime and subsequently tracked down the suspects. Following his arrest, Nelson was booked into the Bexar County Jail with a bond set at $75,000, as MySA detailed.
The heist occurred on the Northeast Side of town, near Austin Highway, as a female Brink's guard was attempting to service a Wells Fargo ATM. Nelson and an accomplice reportedly stormed the guard at gunpoint, demanding she get on the ground while they snatched the money. The arrest warrant affidavit, penned by Robbery Task Force Unit agent Matthew Bernal, accuses Nelson and another actor of depriving the guard of "large amounts of U.S. currency" from the armored vehicle.
Nelson's undoing, however, was his alleged need to flaunt the spoils of his crime on social media. The San Antonio Police removed mentions of Nelson boasting online about his newfound wealth, keen to hit the casino with what was allegedly ill-gotten cash. This digital trail led detectives directly to him, a classical example of pride going before a fall.
