The book worms of San Antonio converged this weekend at the third annual Southside Book Fair, an event dedicated to celebrating local authors and artists from the area. This homegrown fair has been warmly received for its commitment to connect the community through literature and the arts. April Monterrosa, Publisher of Life from the Southside Magazine, telling FOX San Antonio, “We have nothing but local artists, and some are actually from the Southside community.”

Boasting a family-friendly atmosphere, the fair yesterday was a hub for book lovers and aspiring writers, a place where you could get your favorite novel signed, rub elbows with the creators, or even find your new favorite author. The event showcased the burgeoning literary scene of San Antonio’s South Side. Though it wasn't just about sales—Monterrosa also sees this fair as a beacon of creative inspiration for the youth. “We want to utilize this event to instill education in our Southside community and to inspire the youth to write and be creative,” she emphasized in a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio.

Indeed, the Texas Sugar Daddies Event Venue on the Por Vida Academy Campus was transformed into a cultural nexus from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., where free admission welcomed all. April Monterrosa, donning the hats of Publisher/CEO of Live from the Southside and part of the Southside Book Fair Team, shared her excitement with News 4 San Antonio about this year's lineup which offered plenty more than just author panels and meet and greets.

Apart from the fanfare typically associated with a literary festival, Monterrosa expressed a loftier hope, stating “This event is a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of fostering a love for reading in all ages,” citing the potent role of storytelling and its significance in kindling an early love for reading as she discussed the mission of the fair with News 4 San Antonio.
