Parents in Santa Clarita can breathe easier this spring break, as the city rolls out a slew of activities to keep the kiddos busy while school's out. City Manager Ken Striplin has announced a series of engaging programs for students aged 4.5 to 17 that will run from April 1-5 at both the Newhall and Canyon Country Community Centers, as confirmed on the city's official website.
According to Striplin, the camps are a direct response to cries from the community for quality springtime youth engagement; at the Canyon Country Community Center, little tykes aged 4.5-5 can get their social game on through the Spring Buddies program with group games, snack time and dance-offs, while kids 5-12 get a mixed bag of arts, an inflatable obstacle course and a Teen Program-run film festival and the Teen Experience for the older crowd checks all the boxes with film-making sports, arts, and cooking—also the Warner Studios trip is on the table for grabs.
Over at Newhall Community Center, they're mixing it up with a focus on academics and technology—STEAM Camp and RecPlay offer 5-12 year olds brainy and brawny opportunities while teens can dabble in everything from digital art to culinary skills with daily changing themes and a Teen Ventures program that weaves in local culture and food experiences, something the City Manager highlighted on SantaClarita.gov.
The programs are tailored for development across age groups with intentions to foster creativity, build essential life skills and most importantly, offer a fun-filled week for young residents—the city website is buzzing with registration details and in-person sign-up is an alternative at the community centers themselves, Striplin encourages grabbing spots early to guarantee a slot for your child in the enriching Spring Break Camp.
