A heated argument in Southeast D.C. took an alarming turn when a man hurled a rock at a woman, and then holed up inside a house. The incident led to a standoff with police and the arrest of the rock-thrower, authorities said.

The spat unfolded around 8 a.m. on the 2800 block of Q Street, where the victim reported the assault to law enforcement. MPD officers arrived at the scene to find the man threatening them from within a barricaded residence, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

Police declared the situation a barricade and called in the Emergency Response Team. Negotiations eventually brought the situation to a close without further altercations. The suspect, 51-year-old Aaron Johnson of Southeast, was taken into custody. Meanwhile, the woman was treated for her injuries, which were deemed non-life-threatening.

Further investigations revealed Johnson had not only assaulted the woman, but also attempted arson. A fire department arson investigator discovered evidence that Johnson tried starting a fire inside, an alarming detail that resulted in additional malicious burning charges, as per the MPD. Johnson now faces multiple charges, including Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Rock), Threats, and Malicious Burning.
