A woman’s harrowing escape from her alleged kidnapper turned deadly last Friday near a Fredericksburg winery. Authorities reported that 45-year-old Amy Maynor Lejeune of Montgomery, Texas, called 911 claiming to have been kidnapped and drugged, before fatally shooting her captor. The Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the distress call around 12:45 p.m., initiating a swift investigation into the violent incident.
Lejeune, after being found near the scene, was able to clearly describe both the vehicle and weapon involved in the ordeal. According to FOX San Antonio, deputies quickly located the vehicle and discovered the body of 49-year-old Lance Damon Reid, from Houston, dead in the front seat. The Gillespie County Sheriff's Office disclosed that Lejeune and Reid were acquaintances who had only recently met and were supposedly on a weekend trip together when the shooting occurred.
At the crime scene, GCSO deputies and investigators worked meticulously to collect evidence. Lejeune was later taken for an interview at a local hospital as the sheriff's office tried to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. The aftermath of the confrontation left the small community on edge, as the tranquil backdrop of vineyards became a crime scene.
In detail sparse but chilling, the sheriff’s office relayed their initial findings to the media. They stated that Reid and the woman had met shortly before the incident and had planned to spend the weekend together. KSAT reports questioned the woman’s current legal standing, citing that it remains unclear whether she will have to face charges over the shooting. As of their latest release, no confirmation on Reid's cause of death was given.
With additional information yet to be released, the community and authorities are left to wait as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, questions around the circumstances leading up to the shooting loom, seeking to untangle the threads of what turned a planned weekend getaway into a deadly encounter.
