One warrant was served in Windsor while the other was in Santa Rosa, directly relating to the alleged assailants, Ortiz and Garcia-Roman. The police statement indicates Ortiz as the main assailant, having been accused of not only striking the boy multiple times but also kicking him in the head while he lay defenseless on the ground.
The gravity of the charges against the suspects is severe, with both facing counts for Assault likely to cause great bodily injury and for their alleged involvement in Criminal Street Gang activities. According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, the suspects were booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility in light of the compelling evidence, including video footage.
Adding to his list of charges, Ortiz also faces a count of Graffiti Vandalism. It was back on March 11 when a patrol officer spotted gang-related tags spray-painted across Roseland Elementary School. The law enforcement later managed to pin down Ortiz, thanks to video surveillance capabilities, identifying him as one of the culprits behind the vandalism.
