Firefighters in Austin had their hands full Wednesday night as they raced to tame a blazing inferno engulfing an East Austin home, according to the Austin Fire Department. Flames lit up the night sky, tearing through the roof of the house on the 4600 block of Craigwood Drive, reported KXAN.
The blaze drew multiple emergency calls just after 9 p.m. and within five minutes, AFD crews were at the scene battling the fierce fire that had already consumed the entire household, AFD Operations Public Information Officer Rachael Lewis told KXAN as she described the swift and comprehensive response that saw firefighters having it extinguished by 9:19 p.m.
While the flames were put to bed relatively quickly, by 9:30 p.m., to be exact, AFD personnel continued to work through the structure, searching for hot spots and possible fire extensions to ensure that the fire was truly out, as KVUE detailed the thoroughness of the operation.
Although the fire's fury was immense, medics from Austin-Travis County EMS who were also on the scene did not have to treat any fire-related injuries, thankfully, the house stood empty of life but for the fire licking its insides according to AFD, the cause of the fire is still being pieced together by investigators who remained at the charred site past the clamor for answers.
