With National Public Health Week upon us, Austin Public Health (APH) is seizing the moment to showcase its staff and array of health services, a far cry from four years ago when the pandemic had their hands tied, according to a press release from the City of Austin. APH Director Adrienne Sturrup lauded the vital role of public health in our daily lives, emphasizing efforts ranging from accessible vaccinations for children to restaurant inspections for public safety, "Making sure vaccines are available for kiddos, inspecting your favorite restaurants to ensure they’re following best practices and providing new moms guidance and support are just a few of the many efforts happening every day to make a healthier community for all," according to the City of Austin.

This nod to the essential workers and community members coincides with a period where locals can indulge in spring festivities and the resumption of pre-pandemic life, in part thanks to APH's relentless efforts. To help citizens reconnect with regular health services disrupted by COVID-19, Austin-Travis County Health Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes suggested, in no uncertain terms, that it's high time to get back on track with health checkups while pointing to the resources at hand, "I want to use this week as an opportunity to encourage everyone to take care of their health needs, the pandemic put a pause on regular checkups for many, now is the time to schedule your next appointment," Dr. Walkes said, as per the City of Austin.

In celebration of the services they provide and to further educate the public, APH is hosting an event at City Hall on Thursday, April 4. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents are invited to meet the APH team, a group crucial to the continued well-being of the community.
