Washington D.C. residents may need to hold onto their hats as brisk winds continue to sweep through the capital, according to the latest weather update. The National Weather Service (NWS) has reported a few clouds over the city with temperatures sitting at a cool 44°F this morning, and locals should expect partly sunny skies with the high inching towards 56°F as the day progresses.
The NWS has cautioned that gusts could reach as high as 26 mph, contributing to a wind chill factor that makes it feel colder than the thermometer reads, and tonight, while the wind will slow slightly, it still will pack a punch with speeds of 7 to 13 mph and gusts potentially reaching 18 mph as temperatures drop to around 38°F, maintaining mostly clear skies.
The weekend forecasts suggest more sunlight and less wind, promising a sunny Sunday with a milder breeze and a high of 59°F. As the new week commences, residents can enjoy mostly sunny conditions with the mercury climbing to a comfortable 65°F on Monday, while during the night, the partially clouded sky hints at more pleasant dreams with lows around 49°F, according to an NWS report.
But don't pack away the umbrellas just yet, the weather pattern is set to shift come midweek with Tuesday's partly sunny high of 76°F giving way to a 40% chance of showers after 9pm, Wednesday escalates to a 50% chance of rain and Thursday the showery trend continues with an 80% likelihood, meaning persistent showers are expected to pass over the city.
By the end of the week, fluctuations in weather patterns will remain the norm for D.C., with the NWS predicting more showers likely and a high near 70°F for Friday; such variations could affect outdoor plans and commutes, so residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest forecasts.
