With a freshly minted $1.2 million in renovations, the Canton Sports Center is ready to swing back into action this spring season. According to ClickOnDetroit, the township's beloved hub for softball, baseball, and a myriad of other sports, will host a vibrant "Light Up The Park" event on April 17 to showcase its new upgrades and celebrate the season's opening.
The event is set to feature softball and baseball games, a "Kicker's" pizza party, and glow party contests, all set to the beats of DJ Royce from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Notably, a grand reopening ceremony is on the roster for 8 p.m., promising a glitzy start to the season. High on the upgrade list is the center's new state-of-the-art LED lighting system, which aims to bathe its twelve fields in energy-efficient luminosity while slashing down the township's power bills.
As per details released by the Canton Township's Official Website, these improvements aren't just about aesthetics; they're a testament to the township's commitment to spur recreation and foster an inclusive environment for sports aficionados of all ages. Greg Hohenberger, Canton Leisure Services Director, attested, "The Canton Sports Center is an incredible asset to our community, as well as a high-demand sports destination."
Apart from the eye-catching LED system, the facelift also extends to infrastructure with new concrete sidewalks surrounding the facility, which should guide attendees to the fields with ease. "All of these renovations show that Canton Township is committed to recreation and to providing opportunities for all ages to participate in baseball, softball, cricket, lacrosse, flag football, and more," Hohenberger told ClickOnDetroit. The remaining sidewalks are on the docket for an October renovation gobble.
The center – a frequent home run destination for local leagues and national tournaments – not only serves as a sporting haven but also as a financial boon to the Metro Detroit area, often raking in over $1 million in revenue for local businesses during tournament seasons.
