A Washington D.C. man was handed a six-year prison sentence for his involvement in a child pornography ring that plunged into the darkest corners of abuse and exploitation. Donte Mintz, 30, from Southeast Washington, received his sentence after pleading guilty to attempted receipt of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

U.S. District Judge Jia M. Cobb, who accepted the guilty plea on April 2, also slapped Mintz with 10 years of supervised release and mandated sex offender registration. Details surrounding restitution payments to the victims remain forthcoming.

The conviction stems from a collaborative investigation that linked Mintz to thousands of files containing illicit images and videos, some featuring the rape and torture of children as young as toddlers, found across various electronic devices and cloud storage accounts. These announcements were made in a statement released by FBI Special Agent in Charge David J. Scott, alongside Chief Pamela Smith of the MPD.

Evidence against Mintz emerged from reports by Dropbox and KIK employees in late 2020, alerting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to suspicious activity concerning child sex abuse material on their platforms. Sharing, viewing, and uploading such content, Mintz admitted to his crimes when law enforcement executed a federal search warrant at his apartment in July 2021.

This case was aggressively pursued by members of various agencies, including the FBI's Washington Field Office and detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth and Family Services Division, as well as the Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Their coordinated efforts have brought some measure of accountability to the perpetrator of such heinous crimes.
