A D.C. jury has handed down a guilty verdict to Diandre Caesar, 30, convicting him of gunplay and aggression after a heated altercation, as announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith. The announcement came on the heels of a five-day trial that left Caesar facing serious time for his dangerous antics.
The trial dug into the events of a June afternoon when Caesar engaged in a verbal dispute with a family at a McDonald's. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the argument quickly escalated as Caesar attempted to force his way into the victim's car and then proceeded to fire his weapon at them as they fled, with an infant in the backseat.
Striking the vehicle at least four times with bullets, Caesar’s actions led to an arrest warrant being issued and his subsequent arrest on August 24, 2022. The jury convicted him of two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, laying out the consequences for such reckless endangerment.
Sentencing is now set for June 10, by the Honorable Andrea Hertzfeld. Following the guilty verdict, there was an outpour of gratitude towards the Metro Police Department's investigation team. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Travis Wolf and Michael Toogun were also praised for their prosecutorial efforts during the trial.
