Benjamin Robertson, a D.C. man, aged 33, faced a grand jury yesterday and was hit with a slew of serious charges, including second-degree murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and United States Park Police announced the indictment, marking the next chapter in a case that began with a violent incident on July 12, 2023.

During a botched traffic stop on that fateful day, Robertson allegedly fled from the police. In his haste, struck and killed Bing Wong, a senior citizen, and also injured a minor. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, after an in-depth probe conducted by the United States Park Police, Robertson was apprehended and taken into custody.

The list of charges doesn’t end with the assault and murder; Robertson is also accused of fleeing a law enforcement officer, tampering with physical evidence, and destroying property. All these charges sprout from his alleged actions on the day when peace was shattered along D.C.'s streets. The consequences of his alleged actions, as they usually do, teetered far beyond the perilous gambit of evasion.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie Carter will be leading the prosecution’s charge against Robertson. The accused is scheduled for arraignment on April 29, in front of a Superior Court judge, where he will be formally presented his charges.
