Confirmed acts for the Labor Day weekend include the likes of the Billy Childs Quartet, Cameron Graves, and the groundbreaking Zig Zag Power Trio, as reported by The Detroit News. Esteemed jazz drummer and composer Brian Blade has been announced as the festival's 2024 Artist-in-Residence, set to perform several times during the event from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

According to FOX 2 Detroit, this year's festival will not only feature legacy jazz acts but also aspiring talents, marking a dynamic shift to inclusively celebrate the diverse evolution of jazz. The festival venue stretches across the iconic Hart Plaza and Campus Martius and is recognized as the world's largest free jazz festival. Tunes from Brian Blade and The Fellowship Band alongside the One-World Jazz Orchestra were previewed during a livestream, a precursor to the grand event that will envelop downtown Detroit with musical ecstasy.

Flanking Blade on this year's roster are heavy hitters like the Joshua Redman Group, featuring Gabrielle Cavassa on their 'Where Are We' Tour, and the Christian McBride ensemble along with a notable array of contemporary acts like Ghost-Note and the Isaiah J. Thompson Quartet, detailed by Detroit Free Press. Reflecting on the lineup, Chris Collins, the president and artistic director of the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation, was quoted affirming, "This year's lineup reflects a very dynamic and eclectic combination of next generation and legacy jazz musicians who reflect the diverse tapestry of jazz and its evolutions."
