Detroit has found itself under the Hollywood spotlight once again, but this time it's Lions quarterback Jared Goff teaming up with a cinematic legend rather than piling up yards on the field. In a surprising play, Goff makes an unexpected appearance in the new teaser for Netflix's return to the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise, "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F." Tying together two cities known for their distinctive cultures and challenges, Goff takes cues from Eddie Murphy's wisecracking character Axel Foley to navigate his transition from Los Angeles to the Motor City, according to FOX 2 Detroit.

The timing of the teaser couldn't be more apt with Detroit set to host the NFL Draft this week, it seems Netflix knows how to score a marketing touchdown, and even though Goff isn't billed amongst the cast, it's clear he's tackling the role of student to Foley's unorthodox mentor, as seen in the ad where Goff states, "When I first came to Detroit from Los Angeles, I was nervous; it's a big change and I wanted to fit in as quickly as possible, I turned to someone who understood both LA and Detroit. I turned to Axel Foley," The Detroit News highlights.

After Murphy's character dishes out his signature brash greeting, Goff humorously scribbles "More cursing" in his notebook, a homage to Foley's brazen style which Goff seems to emulate in his journey within the Detroit landscape. The awaited sequel, which sees Murphy team up with stars like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and reprise his role alongside original cast members Judge Reinhold and Bronson Pinchot, is set to premiere on Netflix on July 3.

In the face of criticism, Goff adopts Foley's thick-skinned attitude, "The biggest I learned from Axel is to ignore the critics because guys like us, we get the last laugh," he confides in the teaser, a sentiment echoed by Foley's knack for outsmarting his adversaries and as fans gear up for a summer release, Goff's cameo is more than just cross-promotion, it’s an acknowledgment of life's off-script moments, both on and off the field, according to ClickOnDetroit.
