A tense standoff in Temescal Valley ended peacefully Tuesday evening after hours of negotiations when a domestic violence suspect, who had barricaded himself in a home and was possibly armed, surrendered to authorities, according to the Riverside Sheriff's Office. The accused, Alfredo Espinoza, 49, was arrested after deputies received a call regarding an assault on the 11000 block of Starlily Court, confirmed Sergeant Walter Segura.
Responding to the scene at approximately 4:24 p.m., deputies were met by the victim, who claimed she had been attacked by Espinoza. She warned officers that the suspect was still in the residence, armed, and had made threats to shoot deputies, the sheriff's department stated. Espinoza's refusal to exit his home led to the call for the Special Enforcement Bureau, which took over the situation, eventually coaxing Espinoza to give himself up.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence post-arrest and discovered a non-serialized firearm. Espinoza now faces multiple charges including domestic violence, possession of a non-serialized firearm, criminal threats, and violence threats against law enforcement officials. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, while the victim received treatment for her injuries on-site.
This incident has triggered an ongoing investigation, with Deputy Robert Fox leading the inquiries.
