Fairfield Police Arrest Suspect with Drugs, Loaded Gun Following Late-Night Pursuit and Vehicle CrashSource: Fairfield Police Department

A late-night pursuit in Fairfield ended with a spectacular crash and the arrest of a suspect, the Fairfield Police Department reported.

The chase began at about 11:44 p.m. on April 19 after Officer Spencer attempted to stop a vehicle for having no license plates at the intersection of Airbase Parkway and Dover Avenue. The driver refused to pull over, which led to a police pursuit. The car, however, crashed on its own near Cement Hill and Gulf Drive. The driver and front passenger bolted into a nearby field while two cooperating passengers at the rear stayed put.

According to a Facebook post by Fairfield Police, a perimeter was quickly set up with the help of the Solano County Sheriff's Office. During this time, Officer Spencer found a loaded firearm and a large bag of marijuana on the rear floorboard of the stolen vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Oakland.

Officer Brown and the K9 Unit's new recruit, Banner, were part of the search operation, aided by Officer Swoyer's drone. Swoyer's equipment spotted a "hotspot" under a tree, leading the team directly to their quarry. Upon Banner's approach, a man, identified as Cameron Robertson of Oakland, emerged with his hands raised in surrender.

Robertson was subsequently arrested and booked into Solano County Jail. He is facing several charges, including felony reckless evading, detailed by the police department in their online statement. The Fairfield Police hailed the event as a prime example of the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation and the skills of their force.
