The string of convictions tied to the 2023 murder of Kayla Sedoskey wrapped up this week, culminating with a sixth suspect convicted in the grisly crime that took place in a Michigan abandoned facility. Kaylyn Marie Ramsey, 34, of Wakeman, Ohio, entered a no-contest plea to a second-degree murder charge yesterday, ensuring she faces at least 40 years behind bars, according to FOX 2.
The case, which unfolded over more than a year involved a convoluted plot that led to the death of 23-year-old Sedoskey, whose body was discovered on March 2, 2023, in the derelict Boysville Juvenile Detention Center. Sedoskey's ex-boyfriend Steven Bails was at the crux of the conspiracy, along with Ramsey, Brin Smith, Narena Bails, Sierra Bemis, and Alexander Feko, who collectively organized the murder following several disagreements, as per officials cited in a report by clickondetroit. A catfishing ruse, involving Smith luring Sedoskey to the locale, was used to set the deadly trap.
Accounts from law enforcement detail how Smith feigned interest in Sedoskey through Facebook, then drove her to the Boysville Facility where Steven Bails, Ramsey, and Bemis ambushed her. Sedoskey was executed with a .22-caliber handgun, suffering three gunshot wounds, authorities said. Additionally, Narena Bails was tasked with monitoring a police scanner for any police activity during the crime, while Feko later disposed of the weapon, according to data provided by WTOL.
Prior to Ramsey's plea, the other five co-conspirators had already been swept up by the justice system, with Steven Bails convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit homicide. He is facing a life sentence without parole. Narena Bails and Bemis offered their no-contest pleas to second-degree murder, and Feko admitted guilt to tampering with evidence and three counts of accessory to homicide after the fact, effectively closing the net on the last member of the group, Ramsey. The prosecutor's office expressed a personal thank you from Prosecutor Jeffrey Yorkey for the joint efforts of the Michigan State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, and Michigan State Crime Lab. "Prosecutor (Jeffrey) Yorkey personally thanks the team of law enforcement officials from both the Michigan State Police and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department along with the Michigan State Crime Lab," WTOL reported from the prosecutor's office. Sentencing for Ramsey and Smith is set for May 30, whereas the others face sentencing on May 23.
