Fort Worth's 'Court in the Community' Event Offers Chance to Settle Citations Without Arrest on April 20Source: City of Fort Worth, Texas

Fort Worth residents with unpaid citations can breathe easier as the Municipal Court's Court in the Community initiative offers a chance to clear their records with no risk of being thrown behind bars. Scheduled for Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, the event will take place at the Northpark YMCA on 9100 N. Beach St. The program is a lifeline for individuals saddled with outstanding citations, offering them the opportunity to resolve their issues without the threat of arrest, as per the City of Fort Worth.

This event is designed to provide assistance for up to 120 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Those with Class C criminal cases filed in the court, such as traffic, ordinance, and penal code violations, are eligible. Court Director William Rumuly underscored the court's commitment to the community, saying, “I encourage anyone who has an outstanding citation with the Fort Worth Municipal Court to contact us immediately so we can provide options to move those cases to a final resolution”, according to the City of Fort Worth.

Alongside legal resolution, the court has partnered with local organizations to extend additional services for those in attendance. Goodwill North Central Texas will pitch in with a slew of no-cost resources including employment opportunities, job placement services, and career counseling, with no need for an appointment. The City of Fort Worth EnVision Center and Community Action Partners will also be on hand to offer aid with rent and utilities.

The Safe Harbor status of the Fort Worth court, meaning residents can walk into any Municipal Court location with their heads held high, without fearing arrest for outstanding warrants issued by the Fort Worth Municipal Court, represents an attempt to rekindle trust between the justice system and the community.
