The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington DC has indicated that the region will be facing a blustery day ahead with a significant wind advisory in effect until 6 PM this evening. According to the NWS advisory, folks should expect west winds 15 to 25 mph, escalating with gusts up to nearly 50 mph. The advisory, which stretches over central, north-central, and northern Maryland, as well as The District of Columbia and parts of northern Virginia, warns residents to prepare for the possibility of falling tree limbs and subsequent power outages as a result.
With wind speeds ramping up, the NWS has also issued a Gale Warning across all waters until the evening, ensuring that any seagoing plans should be put on hold. Operating high profile vehicles under these conditions is advised against, given that the wind might present too daunting a challenge. Today's NWS forecast promises cloudy conditions in the morning then clearing, with a high near 67, while the wind is set to take a breath overnight, calming down to a clearer sky with a low hovering around 47 degrees.
After today's gusty interlude, the outlook for the upcoming week seems mercifully tame. The NWS forecasts no hazardous weather from Sunday through Friday, and residents can look forward to surprisingly sunny days with highs potentially reaching the 80s by Monday. A slight chance of showers creeps into the picture by Sunday night, but with a mere 20% chance of precipitation, it's not enough to dampen the spirits—or the ground, for that matter.
As the city braces for the gusty onslaught, the NWS urges the public to secure any outdoor objects that might take flight in the heavy winds. "Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," cautions the weather advisory, reminding residents to take the necessary precautions to avoid property damage or injury. Spotters have also been requested to relay any significant wind damage or strong wind gust measurements to the National Weather Service, reinforcing a community effort to stay vigilant through the worst of the winds.
