Flames erupted from the roof of an apartment building in Sharpstown yesterday, leading firefighters to swiftly battle and contain the blaze before it could claim more than its origin. The fire, which officials say was unintentional and stemmed from an electrical failure, broke out at approximately 12:55 a.m. at 9001 Town Park Dr. An air-conditioning unit on the roof is to blame, as per a statement obtained by the Houston Fire Department.
While the night's quiet was shattered by the sudden emergency, no injuries were reported in the incident. Firefighters were able to quickly to respond, ensuring that the damage was kept to a minimum. An estimated $910,000 in property value was saved due to their efforts. The Houston Fire Department estimates the damage at about $110,000, focused mainly on the apartment directly below the faulty AC unit.
The residents of the building were not left to face the aftermath alone; the American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to the displaced family. A considerable show of force was on display as 33 fire department personnel, including crews from Stations 10, 2, 68, 83, 51, 60 and 57, arrived on scene to confront the fire, which they managed to extinguish after conducting salvage and overhaul operations.
