Houston is reeling from a violent episode that left one man dead at an intersection in north Houston, marking yet another casualty of the city's gun violence. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. yesterday, as reported by KTRK, when a man in his 20s was fatally shot while sitting in his car at a stop sign.
Details from the Houston Police Department, obtained by FOX 26 Houston, pinpoint the location of the shooting to the 600 block of West Canino Road. The victim, who was in a silver Toyota sedan, had to have been caught completely off guard when a pickup truck pulled up beside him and multiple shots were fired. The suspect vehicle has been described as possibly being tan or silver and was seen fleeing northbound onto the feeder road of Interstate 45.
Despite immediate medical attention from Houston Fire Department personnel, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The silver Toyota he was driving didn't make it far after the attack, coming to a rest against a curb by the freeway, as shown in video footage collected from the scene.
In their quest to apprehend the gunman, Houston police are now calling for public assistance. Lt. J.P. Horelica told KTRK, "We just happen to have a good citizen that was right behind the incident that had a dashcam that caught the incident right there at the freeway." Investigators are to thoroughly review multiple camera footage from the area to piece together a timeline that led up to the tragic event.
Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the case to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600. Informants can also speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, allowing them to share vital information without fear of retribution. In the face of this grievous loss, the community's cooperation is invaluable in the journey towards justice and understanding the full scope of this senseless violence.
