Huntington Beach Police Nab Suspects for Catalytic Converter Theft, Pile on Additional ChargesSource: Facebook/Huntington Beach Police Department

In the early hours of Sunday, Huntington Beach Police Department officers pulled over a vehicle that was seen violating traffic laws at approximately 2:55 a.m. The stop led to a discovery that escalated quickly from a routine traffic violation to a spotlight on suspected criminal activities involving catalytic converter theft.

The vehicle's occupants were found to have a freshly severed catalytic converter, alongside tools commonly associated with such thefts. The HB Police Department, determined to actively enforce the city's stance against holding detached converters, referenced back to Ordinance 4251, which clearly states that only certified Core Recyclers are allowed to legally possess converters that aren't affixed to vehicles, as reported by the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Both suspects in the vehicle were arrested and taken to HBPD jail, where they were charged with several counts including grand theft and conspiracy, as per the Huntington Beach Police Department. But the charges didn't stop there. The duo was also booked for possession of burglary tools, being felons in possession of ammunition, along with having methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

Police authorities at HBPD have underscored their commitment to community safety by stating, "Remember, crime doesn’t pay in HB, and our officers are committed to proactive policing and keeping our community safe."
