In a stroke of irony, a trio of thieves found out the hard way that stealing Apple AirTags is a quick way to get caught, thanks to the very technology designed to keep track of belongings. Last Tuesday evening, officers at a Target in Irvine apprehended the suspects who were attempting to make off with the devices, after having removed the security sensors, according to the Irvine Police Department.
The suspects were nabbed posthaste, with the speed rivaling the promptness of finding a contact via Apple's "Find My" app, when responding officers swiftly located the trio, the department boasts, clearly satisfied with the quick resolution their police work facilitated. During the follow-up to their initial theft, the officers discovered additional stolen AirTags within the suspects' vehicle, which they believe originated from another retail heist in a neighboring city.
All three individuals were arrested and subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of burglary, false information to an officer, and organized retail theft, as reported by the Irvine Police Department.
