In downtown Los Angeles, a confrontation between a knife-wielding man and a police sergeant led to an officer-involved shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. The incident occurred in the Central Division, near the intersection of 6th Street and San Pedro, at approximately 2:50 pm yesterday, as reported by the LAPD PIO.

According to the LAPD PIO, Central Division officers were following up on an earlier call in the area when the incident unfolded. A sergeant was standing by a patrol car when the suspect, wielding a knife with a 3 1/2” blade, approached. Alerted by bystanders who noticed the imminent threat and yelled warnings, the sergeant confronted the charging assailant, which led to the shooting.
The suspect was hit by police gunfire and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The LAPD PIO confirmed that the knife was recovered at the scene and noted that there were no injuries to the officer or any bystanders during the violent exchange.
