Gunshots rang out on West Carson Street early this morning in what police suspect was a thwarted robbery attempt. Authorities were called to the scene after an "unknown trouble" was reported in the 1000 block at about 12:16 a.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department's blotter. A man was allegedly accosted by an armed suspect after he got out of a vehicle, as reported by the LBPD.
The confrontation quickly escalated when the suspect pulled out a firearm and attempted to rob the victim. In a daring escape, the victim managed to elude his would-be robber by fleeing the area as gunshots echoed behind him. The Long Beach Police responded posthaste, though the suspect had vanished by the time they arrived. A cursory search by officers turned up no evidence of the shooting. "Officers were unable to locate any evidence of a shooting," the LBPD stated in an official press release.
The identity of the male adult suspect remains unknown, and police have yet to release a description. It is unclear if the victim sustained any injuries during the incident, but the press release indicates no injuries connected to the gunfire. The LBPD has launched a full investigation into the altercation and is actively seeking information from the public.
Anyone with knowledge about the incident is encouraged to come forward and help bring resolution to the unsettled case. "The investigation is ongoing," said the LBPD, inviting witnesses who may have noticed suspicious activity to aid in their quest for answers.
