The bakery scene in Los Angeles is about to get a little sweeter as a dynamic duo of bakers join forces to launch Petit Grain Boulangerie in Santa Monica. Clémence de Lutz and Tony Hernandez are setting up shop at 1209 Wilshire Boulevard, taking over the space from Broadway Baker, which is closing its doors on April 13. Petit Grain is tipped quickly to become a hotspot for pastry lovers when it opens on May 1, as per the Eater LA.

Specializing in a range of baked goods from croissants to quiches, the 900-square-foot bakery will initially focus on takeout service. “Twenty percent of the total amount of flour that we use will be locally sourced and milled. Our fruits and vegetables will all come from Santa Monica farmers market,” de Lutz said in a statement obtained by Eater LA. In addition to their commitment to local ingredients, Petit Grain will stand out with traceable and ethically sourced chocolate.

Meanwhile, the previous occupants, Jim and Tom from Broadway Baker, announced their retirement, according to petitgrainboulangerie, sharing their gratitude after a combined 18 years in business across New York City, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica. They expressed hope in Petit Grain Boulangerie's forthcoming journey, stating that their space was a "gift immeasurable in its magnitude" and that they intend "on paying it forward."
