A man accused of a downtown Ann Arbor shooting has been captured by police. The 33-year-old suspect is facing a slew of charges after an incident last month that left another man injured, according to The Detroit News report.
The list of charges includes assault with intent to murder and several firearms offenses. The accused is set for arraignment on Friday at an Ann Arbor district court. The altercation, as originally reported on March 24, transpired in the vicinity of North Main Street and Miller Avenue, where the man now in custody allegedly shot the 23-year-old victim during a dispute with a woman. As he fled, the wounded man found refuge in a parking lot three blocks away at East Huron Street, per MLive.
The victim, a Ypsilanti resident, was subsequently transported to University of Michigan Hospital with critical injuries. Details remain sparse on their current condition. The shooting set off a manhunt for the suspect, who initially managed to evade the police. Despite the temporary escape, the authorities reassured the community that the incident was "isolated" with no additional threats pending.
It is only after the tremendous efforts by Ann Arbor Police that the suspect has now been taken into custody. Though the details on how the apprehension took place have not yet been released, the Police Department's request for public assistance through their Tip Line and email may have played a role in the development, according to Hoodline. The community has been the crucible in aiding law enforcement officials to address the violent event and search for justice for the victim.
Ann Arbor Police continue their investigation and ask anyone with information to come forward. They can be reached at the Ann Arbor Police Department's Tip Line at (734) 794-6939 or via email at [email protected]. The suspect's identity has not been released to the public at this time.
