Man Fatally Shot by Police in Warren Domestic Disturbance, Officers Placed on Leave

A domestic disturbance call in Warren, Michigan, turned deadly on Friday afternoon when police officers shot and killed a man reportedly assaulting family members. According to The Detroit News, two officers responded to the home on Garbor Drive near Ryan Road, north of 11 Mile Road, following reports of a family altercation. The man, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was allegedly chasing an officer with a handgun when he was shot.

Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton stated, "As they turned the corner, he pointed his gun at officers and, at that point, they fired several shots."

Despite efforts to save his life, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two officers involved have since been put on paid administrative leave as mandated by the department's policy, added Rushton. The Macomb Daily reported that the man was shot after he emerged from the back door of the residence with a firearm.

The incident, which happened around 1:45 p.m., did not result in any officer injuries, and authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community. Warren police commissioner reassured, "No officers were injured and there is no threat to the community." The Warren Police Department's detective bureau is currently investigating the shooting, with bodycam and in-car footage set to be reviewed. "Bodycam footage of the entire incident" will be part of the investigation, said Rushton, as reported by The Detroit News.
