Philadelphia's Mayor Cherelle L. Parker has a busy day ahead today as her public schedule is packed with events from ribbon-cutting of new residential buildings to discussions on the city's ghost guns issue and a listening tour with teachers. The mayor will kick off her day at 9:30 a.m., joining the Southern Land Company at the official opening ceremony for The Laurel condominiums and 1909 Rittenhouse apartments on Walnut St., where she will address the public.
Later in the afternoon, at 3:30 p.m., Mayor Parker is set to talk hard numbers and legal triumphs as she briefs the media on the city's recent settlement with ghost gun distributors and manufacturers. This landmark settlement is a significant stride in Philadelphia's battle against gun violence and illegal firearms distribution, and the briefing will be held at City Hall, in the Mayor's Reception Room.
In a statement released by the City of Philadelphia, "The mayor, alongside City Solicitor Renee Garcia and Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel will discuss the City of Philadelphia’s recent settlement of its lawsuit with two manufacturers and distributors of ghost gun parts in Philadelphia."
Wrapping up her day, Mayor Parker's schedule advances to the educational realm as, she heads over to Benjamin Franklin High School at 4:30 p.m. There, she will engage with 15 teachers from district and charter schools, a conversation cosponsored by Elevate 215 and the Philadelphia Citywide Talent Coalition. The listening tour is a platform for the educators to voice their experiences, achievements, and hurdles faced in the line of duty, aiming to elevate the dialogue around educational challenges in Philly schools.
