Mayor Karen Bass Mobilizes Inside Safe Operations in Shadow Hills and East Hollywood to Tackle LA HomelessnessSource: Mayor Karen Bass

Mayor Karen Bass is making moves in Los Angeles, targeting the city's persistent homelessness crisis with the launch of Inside Safe operations across various districts. In partnership with local council members, these initiatives are designed to address encampments and provide supportive services to those in need.

Recently, an Inside Safe operation took place in Shadow Hills as part of the effort to make headway in the homelessness issue, per information from the Mayor's Office. Over 20 individuals were offered assistance through LA Family Housing and other agencies. Highlighting the endeavor, Mayor Bass said, “We have worked urgently to bring thousands more Angelenos inside over the past year than the year before. We have changed the way we address this crisis.” The statement, obtained by the Mayor's official news portal, also thanked Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez for her collaboration in the project.

Councilwoman Rodriguez underlined the collaborative nature of the project, emphasizing the joint efforts to offer interim housing solutions and address environmental concerns in the affected area. With tents coming down in every council district, the sweeping campaign continues to strive for improvements in the services provided to the newly housed Angelenos.

In a related push, Mayor Bass announced an Inside Safe operation in East Hollywood, in a move that targeted an area near a daycare, signaling the seriousness of the campaign's reach. Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, aligning with the Mayor's strategy, commented on the operation's success, “This was our 6th successful Inside Safe operation in our district, showing yet again that when we invest in housing and mental health/addiction treatment, we can bring people off the street and into housing.” Details of the East Hollywood operation were verified via the Mayor's news updates.

In tandem with addressing the immediate needs of those unhoused, Mayor Bass has extended Executive Directive 3 to leverage publicly-owned land to accelerate the development of affordable housing units, tackling the crisis with a longer-term perspective. Over 14,000 units stand to benefit from the directive in a bid to streamline housing development.
