Medway Man Sentenced to Over Six Years for Possessing Illegal Sawn-Off ShotgunSource: Kent Police

A Medway man’s stash of illegal firearms, including a sawn-off shotgun, has landed him a hefty prison sentence. Robert Reading, 50, of Castle Street, Rochester, uncovered his secret arsenal to Kent Police officers after a warranted search at his property, as reported by the Kent Police.

On September 2, 2022, the police executed a search that revealed not only several legally-held air weapons but also a concealed sawn-off shotgun complete with ammunition, hidden out of sight in the loft space. The discovery led to an immediate arrest and subsequent charge for the possession of a prohibited weapon. The raid on Reading's home was the result of detectives' belief that he had access to these dangerous firearms.

Reading did not resist the law's hand and pled guilty to the charges brought against him. Further investigations by the Metropolitan Police Service piled onto his indiscretions. His courtroom fate was sealed on Wednesday, April 24, where he was sentenced to six-and-a-half years behind bars at the Inner London Crown Court, as per the Kent Police.
