
A grim discovery was made in the Navy Yard neighborhood where Metropolitan Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead inside a residential building. The incident took place on 2nd Place Southeast during the early hours of Sunday morning, as reported by the MPD.
The call came in at 3:03 a.m. after residents were roused by the sound of gunfire, triggering police response. Upon arrival, officers found 44-year-old Michael James Quander Jr. suffering from gunshot wounds inside the building; he was pronounced dead at the scene, it was a chaotic situation that quickly was contained by arriving officers.
Identification of the victim was confirmed by authorities who said Quander Jr. was a resident of Northwest. The Homicide Branch detectives have since taken the reins on this case, looking to piece together the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
As of now, the investigation is ongoing with no suspects named or arrests made, the authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help in what proves to be a complex case weeding through the events of that fatal night, every piece of evidence or testimony could be critical in the resolution of this tragic incident.
