A man has been nabbed by police for an alleged knife-wielding assault after a scuffle in Northwest Washington, DC, authorities said. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jaime Ayala of Northeast, DC, reportedly took a swing at the victim with a bottle before pulling a knife, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The altercation took place outside an establishment on the 2000 block of P Street, Northwest, just after 9 p.m. on Sunday. The victim, who emerged unscathed, had a close call when Ayala blocked their path and, allegedly attempted to stab them. The victim managed to escape the threatening situation, and signaled a nearby officer, leading to Ayala's immediate arrest, MPD officials reported.
It was disclosed that Ayala is now facing charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife). The swift response of law enforcement likely prevented what could have escalated into a more grave incident. The victim was fortunate to have fled without injury.
