A routine check on a suspicious vehicle parked illegally in Pasadena spiraled into a deadly confrontation, resulting in a police officer-involved shooting, officials reported. On the evening of April 13, Pasadena Police approached a white pickup truck facing the wrong direction on a one-way street. Engagement with the driver took a sharp and violent turn as he fled, nearly hitting an officer with his truck, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

The subsequent chase swiftly ended when the suspect crashed into a house's front yard on Arden Road, then proceeded to brazenly break into two nearby homes before being located in a backyard. During the pursuit, police had to quickly establish a perimeter and initiate a thorough search of the area. A K9 unit was first to make contact but the suspect was not easily deterred, producing a handgun and refusing to put it down when confronted by officers, as per the Pasadena Police Department.

In a confrontation detailed by Pasadena authorities, the suspect, identified as Ricardo Guade Andrade, 36, was fatally shot after ignoring orders to drop his weapon. After being wounded, Andrade received medical treatment on the scene and was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Pasadena Police's Robbery/Homicide Unit, along with the Professional Standards and Critical Performance Units, are conducting separate investigations into the incident. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is also involved in examining the details surrounding the shooting.
