Prosper Commences $30 Million Overhaul of Raymond Community Park to Boost Local SportsSource: Town of Prosper

Excavators and cranes have kicked off a substantial overhaul at Raymond Community Park, as Prosper officials dig into a $30 million initiative earmarked for sprucing up the public space. According to The Dallas Express release, the project involves equipping the 67-acre park with new athletic fields and courts to boost local sports activities.

The renovation, poised to satisfy the southeastern part of the town's recreational appetite, is part of a massive $210 million bond program singling out $30 million for park enhancements. In a burst of development enthusiasm, Prosper's parks director, Dan Baker, relayed the town's high hopes, saying, "Raymond Community Park will be an important component of the Town’s park system." The additional athletic fields, Baker noted, "will help our youth sports organizations to be able to offer more opportunities to Prosper’s youth", per The Dallas Express

Residents can look forward to a roster of facilities including lighted baseball fields, tennis and pickleball courts, along with multi-use fields, cozying up to a restroom concession building, parking lots, and playground areas. Pedestrian trails will ribbon through the park, flanked by batting cages, terraced walls, covered dugouts, and an arrival plaza that promises to streamline access. These amenities are contained within the park's blueprint, as per details from a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.

Named after Dudley Raymond, Prosper's former parks director whose tenure spanned from 2016 to 2021, the park stands as a tribute to his legacy. Emphasizing his significant role, the release highlighted, "Dudley Raymond’s dedication to enhancing Prosper’s Parks and Recreation system has been instrumental in building an outstanding parks system." Found within the scenic enclave of Collin and Denton counties, Raymond Community Park is set to offer more than just sports and relaxation amenities—preserving the memory of a beloved community figure.

With shovels hitting the dirt earlier this year, the development's wheels are turning towards an April 2025 completion date. With an estimated cost of $17 million for this first phase, as laid out by the project's registration, the planned sports complex cements Prosper's investment in not only infrastructure but also the well-being and recreational needs of its growing community.
