Motorists in Michigan have caught a minor break at the gas pumps with prices dipping down 8 cents since last week's tally, AAA Michigan disclosed. The latest average per gallon of regular unleaded gas stands at $3.54, providing a slight reprieve for drivers, as reported by The Detroit News. While these figures are 9 cents up from the previous month, they show a 7-cent decrease when weighed against the prices from the same time last year.
In the greater Detroit area, the average price has also seen a reduction, now at $3.56 per gallon, which is subtly less, by 1 cent, compared to last year's figures. According to WXYZ, this dip comes amidst a rise in demand, a factor often ushering in higher prices. Yet the Energy Information Administration reports an uptick in both demand, and gas stocks, suggesting that prices are set for an upward trend in the near future.
"Motorists are seeing lower prices at the pump as gas prices continue to fluctuate," Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said, highlighting the volatility of fuel costs. She intimated that a combination of increased gas demand and a tight supply could propel pump prices upward, as obtained by WXYZ.
Across the state, the most expensive gas can be found in Jackson at $3.64 per gallon, followed by Ann Arbor at $3.59, and Marquette at $3.58. On the flip side, Travis City offers the cheapest average at $3.44, with Flint at $3.47 and Benton Harbor close behind at $3.49, as stated by The Detroit News. Meanwhile, the Upper Peninsula shows a wider spectrum of gas prices, with Gogebic County at a low of $3.41 per gallon and Mackinac County peaking at $3.80 per gallon, according to TV6 News.
