An early-morning raid led by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office resulted in multiple detentions on the Southwest Side of San Antonio, uncovering an arsenal of illegal weapons, narcotics, and stolen vehicles. According to FOX San Antonio, Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed that the cache seized this morning included fully automatic weapons among other contraband. The raid, executed just after 6 a.m. at a residence off Port Victoria Street near Interstate 35, was intended to specifically to locate narcotics and firearms.
The intervention swiftly escalated when several suspects attempted to flee the scene, leading law enforcement on a brief foot pursuit before being apprehended. Sheriff Salazar informed KENS 5 that "We were looking for guns this morning and that's exactly what we found." The Sheriff mentioned that devices known as "switches," enabling semi-automatic weapons to fire automatically, were among the recovered items believed to be stolen property.
Sheriff Salazar also said a subset of the detained individuals have active violent felony warrants. "At least two, possibly three people will be going to jail this morning. And at least one of them has a felony warrant out for aggravated assault," he stated. While the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff hinted at the large scale of the operation and its possible links to organized crime, remarking how drugs and weapons crossing borders often signal a cartel's involvement.
The collaborative effort also included personnel from the San Antonio Police, Texas Department of Public Safety, and agents with the Drug Enforcement Agency. Federal charges are on the table for some suspects, said Salazar, because anytime you see drugs going north and money or weapons possibly to go south, the connection to cartel activities can't be overlooked. The raid remains part of an active investigation as law enforcement officials continue to piece together the full extent of the criminal network.
