A San Antonio cop was bitten by a protective pooch while trying to cuff a couple of alleged trespassers late on Wednesday. Answering a call just after 9 p.m. on the 100 block of De Chantle, law enforcement went to apprehend a man and a woman who reportedly did not belong.

As reported by FOX San Antonio, chaos ensued when the female suspect wrestled with the officer. She eventually broke free, dashing into the sanctuary of a forsaken apartment building. Giving chase, the officer was unexpectedly set upon by a dog that burst forth from the dwelling.

The dog bite resulted in the officer incurring non-life-threatening injuries to both arms. This comes as a part of a routine risk officers face when dealing with unpredictable elements during arrests. As the situation unfolded, the canine likely reacted to the perceived invasion of its turf or a threat to its companion.

In an attempt to assist his fellow officer, a second officer at the scene secured the suspects in custody while providing aid to the bitten officer. Not much has been released about the condition of the suspects or the whereabouts of the dog involved in the incident.
