San Antonio Police Search for Suspects After Thieves Strike Chase Bank ATM in Stone OakSource: Google Street View

San Antonio police are hunting for a band of thieves who left a Stone Oak area Chase Bank ATM in shambles, fleeing with wads of cash early Tuesday morning. According to KENS 5, responding to a 4:30 a.m. call, police arrived at the Chase Bank near Stone Oak Parkway and Evans Road to find the ATM destroyed but the suspects were long gone.

The burglary, carried out in an area that sees little traffic during the pre-dawn hours, seems to have been quickly executed. In a spree lasting near 15 minutes, multiple suspects using a stolen truck wrenched the drive-thru ATM from its concrete moorings, as reported by KSAT. Left behind at the scene was a set of burglary tools – a hammer, crowbar, and blow torch – suggesting the suspects were prepared to overcome a strong physical barrier.

The police have found the stolen truck utilized in the burglary nearby, abandoned, and are actively searching for leads on the suspects. Officers also recovered the damaged ATM, which was emptied of its cash drawers before the suspects fled. There's no concrete figure on the stolen amount, but it's suggested to be in the thousands, according to the authorities.

As for the next steps in the investigation, San Antonio police will be combing through surveillance footage for additional clues in hopes of identifying the suspects. "The burglary was done in an area that is not traveled often that early in the morning, making for a good getaway, with few if any, witnesses," SAPD noted. Investigators now busy with the surveillance video, are attempting to piece together the burglary that happened in the quiet hours, with eyewitness accounts believed to be few and far between.
