Looking to kick the cabin fever and dive into some outdoor shenanigans? Santa Clarita's got you covered with a bevy of activities that'll make your weekend more than just a Netflix marathon. City Manager Ken Striplin is leading the charge, hyping up all the greenery and good times waiting in the hills and parks of the city—thanks to a season of generous rainfall, as reported on Santa Clarita's official website.
For those with a hankering to hoof it in the great outdoors, Striplin points to the free and family-friendly Community Hikes, with the next one slated for April 12 at the ever-so picturesque Central Park. This isn't just your average stroll, though; this hike comes with a side of boot-scootin' because it's western-themed, complete with a beginner's line dancing tutorial amongst those 360-degree views. It's the kind of multitasking that involves exercise and socializing, with none of the usual gym intimidation.
The Trek Bike Park is where you'll want to park your enthusiasm— and not just park it, but let it loose on the track. An array of Youth Mountain Bike Demo Days (try saying that five times fast) will be popping up on April 16, 23, and 30. These evenings are jam-packed with bikes, music, and giveaways, according to a city statement. Imagine the joy your kiddos will feel zooming around as the sun fades to twilight, and you'll start to understand why this is a hit.
For a mix of brain and brawn, the Agents of Discovery app spins a treasure hunt vibe to outdoor exploration. Strap on your walking shoes and top up your phone battery, as there's trivia to be tackled and sights to be seen in the Haskell Canyon and Golden Valley Open Spaces. "Our current missions are located at the Haskell Canyon and Golden Valley Open Spaces," invites Striplin, through the city's online portal.
The Santa Clarita Sports Complex’s Gymnasium throws open its doors for drop-in classes, spacing out throughout the week. They've got basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and racquetball for athletes of every stripe and skill level. And come April 6, the city will unwrap its newest gift to the community: Skyline Ranch Park. Over 10 acres of fresh air fun including walking trails, sports courts, and perfect picnic spots peppered at 18355 Skyline Ranch Road are waiting for residents to explore.
The calendar might say "spring," but in Santa Clarita, it screams "get moving!" Whether you're craving a hike, bike, game, or just some good old-fashioned park lounging, there's a little something for everyone in the great outdoors. "I hope to see our community outside at one of our parks, trails or facilities, staying active while engaging with friends and family," Striplin rallies on SantaClarita.gov/Recreation.
