More than 10 months after a devastating blaze tore through Augustine Wine Bar, the Sherman Oaks establishment has begun to rebuild. Notorious for its selection of rare vintages, the bar's destruction was a blow to both connoisseurs and casual wine lovers in the Los Angeles area. A post from the restaurant has expressed the team's relief and optimism: "It’s been a long time coming, but it is indeed a lovely day: the city has approved our plans, permits have been issued, and at 7 am we started rebuilding. There is still a long, long way to go, but at least we’re moving now. And that’s a pretty great feeling," as per augustinewinebar.
Before its unfortunate closure, Augustine Wine Bar stood out for its affordable yet exquisite wine offerings, with a slate of nightly specials written out on a chalkboard. Customers could fully expect to savor a glass of wine sourced from owner David Gibbs’ extensive personal collection of over four thousand bottles. According to What Now Los Angeles, the wine bar wasn't just about drinks; it matched its wines with delicacies like a 14-day dry-aged strip steak, concocting perfect pairings.
Gibbs, a musician and avid wine collector, has been in the hospitality game since 2015 when he first opened Augustine Wine Bar. He has since expanded his entrepreneurial pursuits with other establishments, including Sushi Note, Mirabelle Wine Bar, Augustine Wine Car, and Syd Norman’s Pour House. This diverse portfolio has garnered Gibbs recognition in the industry and a following that eagerly awaits the wine bar's reopening.
While the timeline for Augustine Wine Bar to welcome back patrons remains unclear, the progress in construction is a hopeful sign for both Gibbs and the local community. "There is still a long, long way to go, but at least we’re moving now. And that's a pretty great feeling," said Gibbs, as stated by augustinewinebar , echoing sentiments of anticipation amongst his clientele. The wine bar's return is not only a beacon of resilience but also a much-anticipated event for wine lovers and food enthusiasts alike.
